Breakfast was a boxed meal from Seicomart. I arrived in Otaru last night, and today I’m heading out early.
If I walk to Mount Tengu now, I should get there around opening time. The estimated walk is about fifty minutes, so let’s go.
The slope was 15 percent. A local spoke to me while I was walking with a large backpack and cheered me on when I said I was going to Mount Tengu.
Mount Tengu in the morning
I arrived around nine. It was hot.
Karin, it’s been four months.
In June I came for the night view. Today I could see Otaru in the morning, all the way to the sea.
There was a squirrel too. Cute.
I thought about taking the bus back, but after accounting for the wait it didn’t seem any faster. I walked down instead.
On the way I stopped at a shrine and prayed not to get hurt in tomorrow’s marathon. Rikka was there in shrine maiden clothes.
Visiting the panels around town
I took a photo with Karin at Iwanaga Watch Shop.
I still couldn’t quite line up a heart with Rikka at Animenix.
I took one with Chifuyu at Megane no Takada too.
At the former Temiya Line, I visited the place used as the background for a character illustration.
I went into the former Mitsui Bank building, which I missed last time. Karin was there too.
A detour to Yoichi
Lunch was beer and pizza. I’m not driving this time, so I can drink in the afternoon.
After that I went to Yoichi to buy some alcohol, stopping at the Nikka distillery.
Back in Otaru I had a double fromage cake and took a break with Karin.
I wanted to go toward the sea as well, but the wind was too strong. Next time.
On to Sapporo
I moved to Sapporo in the evening. The sushi restaurant was full, so I had ramen for dinner.
I visited the clock tower too. People often compare it with Harimaya Bridge, but it was bigger than I expected.
Tomorrow I’m running the half marathon at the Sapporo Marathon, wearing my Karin T-shirt. Otaru Shiokaze High School track team, let’s go.
The day before a race, I walked about 17 km while drinking along the way. I didn’t notice it as much in June when I drove, but Otaru really is a town of hills.
I thought about having a little single malt from Yoichi, but decided to settle down and sleep instead.
