I’m going away today. First, a beer in the middle of the day.

Another refueling stop on the way. Daytime beer is good.

I was gripping a protrusion on the train wall as if it were a climbing hold when a guy from Belgium asked, “Are you a climber?” I didn’t expect to be found out there.

Back to Otaru

I reached Otaru just before eight in the evening. It’s been four months since my first visit in June.

I checked into the hotel. This will be base camp.

After dropping off my bags, I walked around town. Chifuyu was in the shopping street.

Then I had an Otaru beer.

Away from the tourist areas, the town feels a little like Tosayamada in size. Somehow that puts me at ease.

I walked around the former Temiya Line too. I think I saw Karin around here before.

Come to think of it, the Tetos were in my bag too, although I hadn’t planned to bring them this time. My travel party keeps growing.
